How do I find the best size for a helmet?
It is a fact that a bike helmet provides safety. A helmet on your head during a bike ride prevents you from permanent damage to your head. The risk on head and brain damage declines with 63 to 88%.
But, a helmet can only provide safety when it fits your head correctly. Don’t wear a helmet that is too big and sits too loosely. On the other hand will a helmet that is too small sit to high on your head. When the helmet fits your head properly you will not feel it, this makes your ride with a helmet comfortable. Helmets are available in different sizes. Make sure you are choosing the right size when purchasing a new one. In the blog below we explain how to do this.
Which size do I need?
Almost all BBB helmets are available in different sizes. You determine the right size by measuring the radius of your head just above your eyebrows (2cm). In the table below you will find the best helmet size with the width of your head.

How do I know that I have the right size?
A helmet that fits needs to sit comfortable on your head and can’t move forward. This can obscure your view. But, the helmet can’t move backwards ass well, because in this way the forehead will be unprotected. It is very important to try a helmet after selecting the right helmet size. Follow the following steps when doing this.
- Position the helmet on your head as illustrated (Fig. 1 ). Make sure the helmet is positioned in horizontal position to protect the forehead. Never wear a helmet tipped back, this will expose the forehead.
- The helmet is provided with the TwistClose, TriFit or FlexClose retention system. Turn the wheel clockwise till you reach the right fit. Loosen the helmet by turning the retention system counter clockwise (Fig. 2). In some BBB helmets you can also reach the right fit by changing the position of the retention system on the inside of both sides of the helmets.
- Open the Cam-Lock adjusters (Fig. 3a). Slide the straps through the adjusters until it is located slightly below the ears. Make sure there is no slack in the straps. Make sure the straps do not run over the ears and close the Cam-Lock adjusters after you’ve reached the right fit (Fig. 3b).
- Adjust the chin buckles so the system can be buckled (Fig. 4a). After riding the buckle can easily be released (Fig. 4b).
Always make sure the chin strap is placed against the throat. Never position the chin strap on the point of the chin (Fig 4c). Make sure the loose ends of the strap runs through the rubber O-ring (Fig 4d).
Once the helmet is adjusted, shake your head. If the helmet size is correct and the retention system and straps are set correctly, the helmet should not move too much on the head. If the helmets moves, reset the retention system and straps or try a smaller sized BBB helmet (Fig 5).
Before using the helmet, make sure it fits correctly and the chin buckle is buckled (Fig 6).
